Those of you that have known me for any length of time know of my undying love for San Francisco. Ever since I lived there briefly back in the mid ’90s, I have been longing to return. I have sworn for years that one day, I would find a way to live there again. Well, it looks like that day has finally arrived. At least partially.
Let me explain. No, it’s too long… let me sum up. (You know you’re writing a blog post far too late at night/early in the morning when you start making Princess Bride references…)
This week I accepted a 3-month (possibly more) contract position with a fairly well-known retailer based in San Francisco. They required the position to be someone who was on-site. Last time I checked, I live in Atlanta. Oops… guess I’m gonna be moving for a while! So, next week I’m headed out there to spend some time with my new coworkers, doing some knowledge transfer and learning about all the things I will now be managing. After that, I’m coming home for a couple weeks to tie up some things here so that I can make a more “permanent” move to San Francisco. 3 months is as permanent as it gets for me right now, but I’ll take it… it’s the longest I’ll have been there at one time since 1996. And when that 3 months is up… there’s a good chance they’ll ask me to truly stay permanently. If that happens? There’s a good chance I’ll say yes. I can imagine few things that would make me happier than spending the rest of my life in that city.
So there you go… that’s what all the vagueness on my Twitter/Facebook has been about lately. Trying to finalize all of this and make sure it was really happening before I decided to tell the world. I know a ton of you who live out in the Bay Area, and I’m greatly looking forward to meeting up with you (many for the first time) and making some new friends! If you want to meet up with me, hit me up on e-mail or Twitter.
Off to get some sleep, tomorrow is laundry and packing day…
